There’s an old saying “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink.” Well, this Denial Management Training is designed to teach you how to make the horse thirsty. Unfortunately, many people in the grip of an addictive disorder see the “waters of recovery” as a scary and often as a disgusting swamp. Our goal is to show the waters of recovery are more like a crystal-clear mountain spring.

Through E Care Behavioral Health Institute
One of the most challenging behavioral health problems is treating Substance Use Disorders (SUD). For many people in the grip of this condition, they are resistant to help and in significant denial about even having a problem. Many people are forced into treatment by family members, medical professionals, and sometimes the criminal justice system. Others have reached the point where using alcohol and other drugs is causing them more problems than it’s helping them with. Another major problem with people who do get treatment and/or move into recovery is the relapse rate is often extremely high.
This workshop is designed to help you identify and manage your clients’ resistance and denial and give you effective intervention tools to move people into quality recovery and stay there. You will also be exposed to ways to help your clients develop an effective relapse prevention plan while completing their treatment process and why it needs to be modified on an ongoing basis. The emphasis is starting treatment with relapse prevention tools and starting relapse prevention with denial management tools. You will also be exposed to utilizing a strategic empowering “Formula for Success.”

Upon completing this Relapse Prevention Training, you will be able to:
1) Assist your clients in directly identifying and managing the twelve most common denial patterns that can sabotage the treatment process and quality of life.
2) Look at denial differently by normalizing and “de-pathologizing” this human defense mechanism in order to explain it to the clients you serve.
3) Educate their clients about the nine (9) mistaken beliefs about relapse that will lead to developing a more effective relapse prevention plan.
4) Explain relapse as a process—not an event—and educate their clients that recognizing and managing early relapse warning signs is a crucial step in stopping a potential relapse cycle.

Empowerment Coaching is intended for people who, despite their best efforts, have been unable to create and maintain the quality of life they really want. Or for those who choose not to enroll in traditional treatment programs. Many of Dr. Grinstead's coaching clients have completed several traditional treatment programs and either relapsed or were afraid they might.
Empowerment Coaching is very different from therapy or counseling. It is more collaborative and action-oriented than therapy and focuses primarily on the present and immediate future and by setting realistic short and long-term goals.
