Three Hour Live Online Presentation
Thursday July 6, 2023 - 12:00 Noon to 3:15 PM EST
By attending and participating in this workshop you will be able to deal more effectively with clients exhibiting denial and treatment resistance. Upon completing this workshop, you will be able to understand the philosophy of resistance and denial as well as learning how to effectively intervene and disrupt your clients’ self-defeating patterns of behavior.
Using terms like the “inner saboteur” or self-defeating defenses is an important part of helping our clients recognize, normalize, de-pathologize and manage their denial. One important goal of this workshop is to educate, normalize and de-pathologize denial so we can help our clients recognize that it is a normal part of being human. You will learn how to identify and managing your personal denial patterns to be more effective helping their clients see theirs. You will be encouraged to explore your own personal defenses and how they developed in order to be more effective with the clients you serve. Special emphasis will be placed on building a collaborative relationship with clients.
You will also learn the general steps of the Denial Management Interactional Process that is designed to manage denial in here-and-now interactions with clients and how to directly deal with the twelve most common denial patterns used by people with self-defeating patterns of behavior. Finally, this workshop teaches you how to develop the tools necessary to implement a successful treatment plan for teaching your clients strategic denial self-management skills.

Terry Gorski developed the Advanced Relapse Prevention Therapy Certification (40 Hour) Training to address the relapse process and eliminate or significantly reduce people’s risk of relapse. This training will rank among the most comprehensive and effective that you have ever experienced. It is an advanced clinical skills training designed for professional counselors and therapists who are good and want to get better.
Over the past 40 years research has clearly shown that relapse is a process that begins long before recovering people even start thinking about using alcohol or other drugs. Alcohol and other drug use does not mark the beginning of the relapse process—it is the final stage. Alcohol and drug use is just the final step in an ongoing relapse process. The relapse process begins as recovering people begin using thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that create so much pain and problems that self-medication with alcohol and other drugs seems like a good choice.
This Training Consists Of:
Participants will also learn to teach their clients/patients to:
Participants will be able to teach their clients/patients how to use standard procedures in groups (or individual) sessions that help them stay on track and engaged in treatment with segments on Group Opening, Presentation, and Closure Procedures.

Empowerment Coaching is intended for people who, despite their best efforts, have been unable to create and maintain the quality of life they really want. Or for those who choose not to enroll in traditional treatment programs. Many of Dr. Grinstead's coaching clients have completed several traditional treatment programs and either relapsed or were afraid they might.
Empowerment Coaching is very different from therapy or counseling. It is more collaborative and action-oriented than therapy and focuses primarily on the present and immediate future and by setting realistic short and long-term goals.
